An exploration of the western area of the city with Rialto bridge as starting point.
Rialto, in the past the commercial hub of the most powerful maritime city state of the whole Mediterranean sea and beating heart of the international trade of the time, is nowadays a colourful, lively market place opening every morning its stalls selling fruit, vegetables and seafood. From Rialto, following a maze of hidden paths, the next stop will be the ancient “red-light” district where prostitutes were confined to live. Passing through campo San Polo and campo San Giacomo dell’Orio, the tour will include Rio Marin, the Scuola Grande di San Giovanni Evangelista, the Scuola Grande di San Rocco and Campo dei Frari.
The visit to the Basilica di Santa Maria Gloriosa, the church founded by the Franciscan friars back to the XIII century and home to precious masterpieces of the Venetian art will be the conclusion of the tour.
Entry fees are additional and are to be paid by the client at the site.
